Arsenal achievement even greater than Leicester’s miracle, claims outrageous ex-Gunners wideman

Former Arsenal right-back Lauren has made the outrageous claim that the Gunners’ Invincibles season is better than Leicester City‘s miracle title triumph.

It’s hard to argue that Arsenal’s 2003-04 campaign wasn’t one of the greatest achievements in the English game; the North London giants lifted the Premier League title after having gone 49 games without defeat during an astounding seasons.

Lauren was a key feature of that team, who achieved something that hadn’t been done in the top flight since the iconic Preston North End team of the 1880s.

It was a hell of an achievement—no doubt—but was it—as Lauren argues—better than Leicester’s unthinkable season?

“What Leicester did is something remarkable. At the beginning of the season no-one expected that sort of achievement,” the former Cameroon international told Goal.

“It’s been based on hard work, togetherness and huge commitment among everyone in that team. It’s something unbelievable for them and it’s good for football – another team breaking through against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal,” the Central African continued.

“Leicester did something unbelievable but to be unbeaten is something extra. Going a whole season without losing a game is something unique. We cannot put the two together. If you ask me, I’d say the unbeaten season is bigger.”

There’s surely an element of bias about Lauren’s comments, with his achievements with the Gunners being among the highlight of his decorated career.

Objectively, while both campaigns will go down in history, surely Leicester’s victory and their transition from relegation favourites to title champions—which has made headlines worldwide—will go down as English football’s biggest-ever achievement.
