Bayern Munich’s apparent scouting mission of Kevin Wimmer did not go to plan as the Tottenham Hotspur defender spent Austria’s friendly watching from afar himself.
German newspaper Bild claims that Bayern sent representatives to watch Wimmer during Austria’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Turkey on Tuesday, but he was an unused substitute.
Wimmer spent much of the first half of the season on the bench at Spurs too, but has recently stepped in for the injured Jan Vertonghen with 14 straight starts in all competitions.
Bayern may have been impressed with the 23-year-old centre-back, but were denied the chance to get a look at him at close quarters as Turkey came from behind to win in Vienna.
However, they will be able to fall back on the three years that they would have seen Wimmer playing in the Bundesliga for FC Koln before his switch to White Hart Lane last summer.
Bayern were able to get a look at Aleksandar Dragovic, preferred to Wimmer in defence. Bild report that the Dynamo Kiev star is also a transfer target for the German champions.
