An official from Schalke 04 has insisted that Leroy Sane will not be sold during the January transfer window despite considerable interest from the Premier League.

Speaking to Bild [as per Goal], Clemens Tonnie, the club’s supervisory board chairman, has insisted that the player won’t be leaving, and that the wonderkid has no desire to leave the club.

“Leroy won’t be leaving,” Tonnie began, “and the player doesn’t want to leave Schalke.

“For the time being, we’ve not received any formal offers, if there is a concrete offer for Leroy, it just confirms the exceptional youth work we’re doing at Schalke.”

Tonnie’s comments are set to come as bad news to both Liverpool and Manchester City, with the two Premier League heavyweights having been linked to the forward in recent times.

According to Bild [via the Telegraph], Jurgen Klopp is eyeing his compatriot as a potentially valuable addition at Anfield, and clearly sees in the promising Sane the combination of talents that could make him an outstanding prospect for the Reds.

However, the Merseyside giants face considerable competition from City.

Bild have reported that the Sky Blues are plotting a €55 million move for the player, which would make him the most expensive German player of all time.

Should the Citizens realise the rumours and bid such an eye-watering fee for the precocious youngster—who remains a raw talent—it’s hard to imagine that Schalke would turn them down, despite Tonnie’s fighting talk.
