Former France, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka has lauded Manchester United newbie Anthony Martial as “one of the most talented players of his generation.”
The 19-year-old France international joined the Red Devils from Monaco on transfer deadline day for a fee of around £36m, which could rise to well over £50m with eventual bonus payments.
Such a sum stunned the footballing world, with Martial having only notched 11 goals for the French side before the deal while being yet to represent his national side at a senior level.
However, Martial has made a fantastic start to life at Old Trafford, scoring four goals in the red shirt – including a wonderful debut strike against Liverpool, which drew comparisons with Thierry Henry.
And Anelka believes that United have snapped up one of the very best young players on the planet:
“Anthony is a very good player and I’m sure he’ll do well for United,” he told Goal.
“He is one of the most talented young players of his generation.
“He’ll get better and better!”
