Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic has allegedly offered legendary striker Didier Drogba a coaching role at the club just hours after sacking manager Jose Mourinho, according to reports in Jeune Afrique.

Mourinho was given his marching orders on Thursday afternoon, with several reports across various publications now claiming that Guus Hiddink will take temporary charge of the club until the end of the season.

But it had now emerged that Abramovic has extended an offer to Drogba to come on board as a member of the club’s new look coaching staff.

The 37-year-old is believed to be keen on making a return to Stamford Bridge in order to take his coaching badges and work with the squad before potentially taking charge of first team duties.

As a club legend, his presence would go a long way to galvanising the players already there, and it is that ability that has likely made him an attractive prospect for Abramovic.

However, he is still under contract with MLS side Montreal Impact, and any move to bring him on board would require the Blues to buy him out of the rest of his contract there.
