Tottenham have reportedly moved to the brink of making their first summer signing with Sao Paulo striker Jonathan Calleri set to arrive in north London.

The 22-year-old joined the Brazilian outfit from Boca Juniors last season, and went on to score eight goals in 10 Copa Libertadores outings to continue to attract significant attention.

However, it appears as though Mauricio Pochettino has won the race for his signature, with the player’s father and agent, Guillermo Calleri, claiming that there is a verbal agreement in place between the two parties regarding a summer move, as reported by The Sun.

The Argentine forward has been highly successful in his career to date, and will hope to continue that tradition if his move to England does indeed become a reality.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be looking to build on their success this season despite the disappointment of ultimately missing out on the Premier League title to Leicester City.

Pochettino will be able to take away countless positives from the campaign, and given that he will likely be backed financially in the summer transfer market, he can expect to be able to strengthen his squad further and aim to go one better next time round.

Calleri’s arrival would naturally lessen the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane and add welcome depth up front, but as with every new Premier League arrival, it remains to be seen how quickly he can adjust to the English game and develop into a key player in the Spurs squad if he secures his move to White Hart Lane.
