PSG clinched the French title in record time in March, following a thumping 9-0 victory at Troyes, and have followed that up by reaching 89 points—their all-time record points haul in a single campaign.
With three games left to play this season, PSG look almost dead certs to top their record points haul.
They cruised past European hopefuls Rennes and, in truth, could have scored more than their three goals, with the likes of Edinson Cavani guilty of missing a hatful of gilt-edged chances.
Maxwell opened the scoring for the visitors in the 50th minute, when the veteran left-back darted daringly—and somewhat uncharacteristically—through the Rennes defence before beating Benoit Costil with a fine effort.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic—the division’s top scorer—doubled the home side’s lead four minutes later to give Laurent Blanc’s giants a stranglehold on the match, before adding a third in the 78th minute.
The two efforts take Zlatan—whose contract at PSG comes to an end this summer—up to 34 goals after 28 matches, a truly astonishing haul for a 34-year-old.
